About Madhogarh Fort

Fort Madhogarh is situated in Madhogarh Village which is about 42 km away from Jaipur off the Jaipur - Agra highway (NH 11). Madhogarh is a typical small Rajasthani town; even today communities of carpenters, cobblers, carpet makers, potters,etc. can be seen playing their trade in the centuries old traditional way. The town is dominated by the charming Madhogarh Fort located on an elephant back shaped hill. Situated at the foothills of the Aravali ranges, Madhogarh is a small village in Rajasthan state of India, which is famous for its beautiful old havelis.

Fort Madhogarh was constructed by Madho Singh Ji nearly 400 years ago and it was renovated and converted into heritage hotel by Thakur Bhawani Singh Ji in July 2000.

The Madhogarh fort entered the history books when Maharaja Sawai Pratap Singh Ji choose to make this fort his headquarters in his battle against the Marathas. The decisive battle between the Rajputs and the Marathas was fought in the plains of Tunga, just about 1 Km from Madhogarh, on 28th July 1787. The battle started at 9 am and lasted till about one hour after sunset. The combined Rajput army of Jaipur and Jodhpur was about 50,000 string while the Maratha army was larger, with about 80,000 solders. The Maratha army also had a professionally trained battalion under the command of the famous Maratha general, Mahadaji Scindia, was forced to abandon the battle field and leave at night. The casualties numbered in thousand. Even today in some fields in Tunga pieces of rusted equipment and human bones are found.

The Present owner, Thakur Bhawani Singh, the fourth generation directed descendent of Thakur Pratap Singhji, has now modernize the Madhogarh Fort and converted into a family run heritage hotel. Guests can now experience the famous Rajput hospitality and relive the glory of a bygone age.

 
History of Madhogarh Fort

Maharaja Sawai Ram Singh II was married in Madhogarh family and gave Madhogarh as a hereditary estate to Thakur Pratap Singh Ji a Rajput of Bhati clan. Fort Madhogarh is 400 year old property constructed by Madho Singh who belongs to a Rajput of Kachava Clan.

Just when the plasters of the fort were pealing off and stone slabs falling under the ravages of time, the family whose ancestors Thakur Bhawani Singh the fourth generation direct descendant. When he saw his beautiful fortress turning into rubble he embarked on the project to convert it into a family run heritage hotel. Launched into a hotel in July 2000, the fort promised a wonderful experience to visitors.

A former battle site of the Kachhawaha Rajputs, Fort Madhogarh has now been changed into a heritage hotel by the Present owner, Thakur Bhawani Singh. The heritage hotel run by the family now offers a chance to guests to experience the famous Rajput hospitality.
