Information about Pithoragarh

Pithoragarh is situated at a height of 5,396 feet in a beautiful valley surrounded by mighty mountains in all directions and shares borders with Nepal. Pithoragarh is a lesser known tourist destination that commands attention from two kinds of people-mountain lovers and country servers (Indian Army). As Pithoragarh shares its border with Nepal, it serves as an important halt for those heading towards the sacred Kailash Mansarovar in Tibet and Adi Kailash in India. On the way to Pithoragarh you will cross many pretty little Kumaon villages. These villages with their customary white walls blue windows and doors, cobbled stone streets and citrus fruit orchards are straight out of a picture postcard. During winter season, the orchards take on hues of orange and yellow from their ripe orange, malta and other similar fruits. Pithoragarh is a cool place in which there are less tourists, no pilgrims and tourist guides. In its environment, you can paraglide, hang glide, mountain bike, river raft, ski and trek. The mountainous terrain and swift rivers are ideal for these activities. The Nanda Devi and Panchchuli ranges of snow clad peaks can be seen from Pithoragarh. Kumaon Mandal Vikas Nigam Ltd. has major plans of developing Pithoragarh as an upcoming adventure destination in the near future.
