About Palace on Wheels
The journey by Palace on Wheels is one of the world's most exciting train journey and one of the finest ways to travel through the incomparable, incredible, impressive and inspirational land of India. Palace on Wheels is one of the top ten luxury trains of the world. Palace on Wheels is a special heritage tourist train that is designed specially to give the tourists the same royal treatment, which was only associated with kings and queens that once ruled the land of Rajasthan. In this train, everything is taken care of like dining, accommodation, sightseeing and as well as shopping. There is nothing for the traveler to do but only experience the royal life like a Maharaja and the cultural, natural, architectural and

the traditional richness of India. The travel on Palace-on-Wheels has been planned in such a way so to move during the nights and be at the holiday destinations during the daytime. Palace on Wheels, the luxurious train covers seven days tour of Rajasthan. This journey can be enjoyed only from the months of September to April. It starts on every Wednesday night from the Delhi Cantt and returns early morning on next Wednesday after going through Jaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Sawai Madhopur, Chittorgarh, Udaipur, Bharatpur and Agra. On the way, the tourists visit some of the most beautiful and significant historical monuments, palaces, forts, havelis, temples and sand dunes that have made this one of most popular tourist circuits in the world. 

The Fairy Queen, the world's oldest steam engine is used in the Palace on Wheels. The lavishly decorated carriages in the train were originally used by the former Maharajas and Viceroys of Rajasthan and other states, and where not used after independence. In 1981, Indian Railway and Rajasthan Tourism worked together and refurbish 13 carriages from different princely states. On January 26, 1982 the Palace on Wheels was launched as a special heritage train, that offers an unforgettable experience to tourists that visit Rajasthan.

In 1991, a new air-conditioned meter-gauge Palace on Wheels replaced the old heritage train. Besides maintaining the décor and ambience of the original train, there are various modern facilities as well in the train. The train has a total capacity of 104 persons, and consists of 14 fully air-conditioned deluxe coaches, with the aesthetic and royal interiors and rich decor of the past and equipped with world class modern facilities. These coaches are named after former Rajput princely states like Kota, Jaipur, Udaipur, Jaisalmer, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Alwar, Sirohi, Kishangarh, Bundi, Dungarpur, Bharatpur, Jhalawar and Dholpur. Each coach has a mini pantry and a lounge to ensure availability of hot and cold beverages, and refreshments and a place to relax and get together. There are 52 rooms in the train and each room has a combination of 4 twin bedded chambers with central air-conditioning, channel music, color television, CD player, intercom, attached bathroom with hot and cold running water, shower, wall to wall carpet and other amenities. Besides this, there are two restaurants "The Maharaja" and "The Maharani" which serves Continental, Chinese, Indian and Rajasthani cuisines. There is also a well stocked bar in the train that offers the various choices of sprits of Indian and international brands. 

The Palace On Wheels first stoppage is at Jaipur, the Pink City where guests receive a royal welcome. The guests visit the various places of interest like Hawa Mahal and Amber Fort. On the second day, the train arrives in Jaisalmer. Upon arrival, the guests visit the Golden Fort and enjoy the camel ride. On the third day, the train arrives in Jodhpur, and the guests visit the Mehrangarh Fort. On the fourth day, the train arrives in Sawai Madhopur. The guests will visit the Ranthambore National Park. Later, the train departs for Chittorgarh. On the fifth day, in Chittorgarh, the guests visit the Chittorgarh Fort. On, the sixth day, the train arrives in Udaipur, famous for the unique Lake palace built on the Pichola lake. On the seventh day, the train arrives at Bharatpur. The tourists here visit the Keoladeo Ghana National Park, home to nearly 300 species of birds and depart for Agra. In Agra, a visit to the Taj Mahal is the crowning point of this fairytale journey. After visiting Taj Mahal, the train departs back to Delhi.
