Shigatse also called Xigatse is the second largest city in Tibet. Literally means "fertile land", it is situated at the junction of the Yarlong Tsangpo (Brahmaputra) and Nyangchu River.  This 600 year old city was earlier the capital of Tsang province and now is the capital of Shigatse prefecture. The city has a lot to offer to the tourists with its high snow capped peaks, wonderful monasteries and colorful markets. The most popular site in Shigatse is Tashilhunpo Monastery.
