Kerala offers one of the longest stretches of beaches in the country. Kerala shares its western border with the Arabian Sea and has a 600 km long shoreline. This shoreline is dotted with some of the finest and charming sandy beaches, rocky formations, natural harbours, lagoons and coconut palms. Most of the India's finest beaches are located in Kerala. Each and every year, the large number of visitors visit Kerala due to these beaches. The world famous Kovalam beach and the historic Bekal beach is found only in Kerala.

Kovalam Beach
The Kovalam beach is located about 16 kms. from the city of Thiruvananthapuram or Trivandrum. This internationally renowned beach resort has been a favourite place of tourists since the 1930s. Kovalam consists of three adjacent crescent beaches. The southernmost beach is known as the Lighthouse Beach and is the most popular beach.

Thangasseri Beach
The Thangasseri beach is situated about 5 kms from the town of Kollam. This seaside village is historically important and has the ruins of an old Portuguese fort and various churches built in the 18th century.

Varkala Beach
Varakala beach is located about 41 kms. from the city of Thiruvananthapuram. This is a famous seaside resort and spa, as well as an important Hindu pilgrimage center. High cliffs with rich mineral springs rise majestically from the coastline. The two major attractions of this beach are the 2000 year old Sree Janjardhana Swamy Temple and the Nature Care Centre.

Shanghumukham Beach
The Shanghumukham Beach is located about 16 kms from Trivandrum. This beach is a favourite place for the sunset viewers. The main attractions of this beach are an indoor recreation club, the Matsya Kanyaka (a gigantic, 35 m long sculpture of a mermaid) and a restaurant shaped like a starfish.

Alappuzha Beach is one of the most popular picnic spots in Alappuzha. The pier, which extends into the sea here, is about 140 years old

Cherai Beach, Kerala Cherai beach
The Cherai beach is located in Cochin and border the Vypeen island. This beach is located about 45 kms from the Ernakulam. This beach is ideal for swimming. Dolphins can be seen occasionally at this beach. A typical Kerala village with paddy fields and coconut groves nearby is an added attraction of this beach.
