Tourist attractions in Bekal

Bekal Fort:
The circular laterite for set on a rocky headland overlooking the Arabian Sea, is one of the largest and best preserved forts of Kerala. It was originally built by Shivappa Naik of the Ikkeri dynasty, between 1645 and 1660. during 18th century, the fort came under the control of Tipu Sultan and later into the hands of British. The observation towers of the fort afford breathtaking views of the scenic surroundings and the beautiful Bekal Beach.

Pallikere Beach :
The beautiful beach is at a walking distance from the Bekal fort.

Bekal Hole Aqua Park:

This unique Aqua Park is one of its kind in this part of the State. Boating facilities are available at the backwaters near Pallikere beach.

Around Bekal

Ananthapura Lake (30 kms.)
The 9th century temple set amidst a rock cut lake is the only lake temple in Kerala. It is believed to be the ‘moolasthanam’ or the original seat of Ananthapadmanabha of Sree Padmanabha Swami Temple in Thiruvananthapuram.

Kappil Beach (6 kms.)
The idyllic beach is becoming very popular among the tourists. The Kodi Cliff nearby affords fine view of the Arabian Sea

Chandragiri Fort (10 kms.)
The square shaped fort was built in 17th century by Sivappa Naik of Bedanore. It is located amidst the Lakshadweep Sea and Chandragiri river and is an excellent sun-set point. Boat trips to the nearby islands and palm groves from Chandragiri bridge are popular. Other attractions nearby are a mosque built by Malik Ibn Dinar, a disciple of Prophet Muhammad, who is said to have introduced Islam to Kerala in 664 A.D. The ancient temple of Kizhur Sastha is also very popular.

Kasaragod (16 kms.)
Kasaragod, the district headquarters is a bustling centre of the coir and handloom insustries. There is also a fort built by Sivappa Nayak in 17th century. The unique Madhur Mahaganapathy temple located 8 kms. North of Kasargod is well known for its architectural style.

Kasaragod is the nearest rail head.
