Orissa is also a land of lovely and quiet beaches. Some of these beaches are undiscovered and located at a short distance from some of the most beautifully sculpted temples and shrines. These beaches are also visited by the tourists from all over the world. Some of the famous beaches in Orissa are Puri beach, Chandipur beach, Gopalpur-On-Sea and Chandrabhaga Beach.

Puri Beach

The Puri Beach is one of the best beach in Orissa and India. Various pilgrims take a holy dip in this beach while visiting the Jagannath Temple at Puri. This beach is visited by tourists from all parts of the world. This beach is known for its excellent surf and shallow waters. It is a very wonderful experience to view the sunrise and sunset. The currents are very strong here, so swimmers need to take care.

Chandipur Beach

Chandipur Beach is relatively undiscovered and one of the finest beach of Orissa. In this beach, the tide retreats for about 5 kms. daily and life is serene and unhurried. This beach is surrounded by the casuarine trees and creeper sand-dunes which make this beach very attractive. The water at the Chandipur Beach is like molten gold under the sunlit sky. Chandipur is a beach-combers delight with its abundant sea-shells and driftwood. This place is an excellent place to go to Simlipal and Khiching.

Gopalpur-On-Sea, Orissa

The Gopalpur-On-Sea is a very quiet and one of the most pristine beaches in Orissa. Gopalpur-On-Sea is situated about 16 km from Berhampur, and is becoming popular with a large number of sea-worshippers. Gopalpur was an ancient sea port from which early settlers from Kalinga settled as far as Java, Bali and Sumatra. The crumbling walls and pillars of an ancient jetty can be seen here which are the witness to Gopalpur's maritime past when it was an active seaport. Today, it is a modern and popular luxurious beach resort and offers a beautiful sandy beach and excellent facilities like surfing and sailing. Sand dunes, groves of coconut palm and casuarines separate the small town of Berhampur from the beach on the Bay of Bengal.

Chandrabhaga Beach

Chandrabhaga beach is one of sqrawling beach at Konark. This beach is one of the finest beach in the world, situated at a short distance from the Sun Temple. This beach has its own lovely serenity with a long stretch of clean sands and cool blue sea with rolling waves.

Paradwip Beach

Paradwip is a pleasant beach resort, situated about 94 kms. from Cuttack. Pradwip is an active sea port at the mouth of the Mahanadi river , with a marine drive. Thousands of sea turtles migrate here in winter every year from very long distances as far as South America and lay their eggs and then return.
