Hotel GRT Temple Bay was the first hotel that was built in 1957 as a stone house on the banks of the Mamallapuram beach. Later in the 1960 it was converted into a into a cluster of hamlets and hammocks right on the beach front. The resort was influenced by elements of Pallava architecture. Over the last four decades, the Temple Bay has played host to kings, Nobel laureates and various Indian administrators like the Dalai Lama, Prince Charles, Indira Gandhi, King Birendra and Marshal Tito. Now this resort belongs to the GRT Hotels and Resorts group.
