Passports:
Passports must be valid for at least 8 Months and is required by all tourists.


Visas:

Visas are also required by all tourists.


Some important information:
1. Tourist visa up to 5 years may be granted if the foreigner is connected with the tourism trade.
2. If visa is for more than 180 days, registration is compulsory within 14 days of first arrival in India.
3. Visas are extended in Delhi office which is at Lok Nayak Bhawan, New Delhi.

Validity of Visa:
1. Tourist Visa: Tourist Visas are valid up to 6 months from date of issue.
2. Business Visa: Business Visas are valid up to 2 years.
3. Transit Visa: Transit Visas for normally 72 hours are valid for 15 days from date of issue.
4. Long-term: Long term Visas are valid up to 5 years. Although the individual visits are not expected to exceed 6 months.

The applications for visas can be send to Embassy or High Commission.


Application Requirements :

(a) Passports should be valid for at least 8 months.

(b) Nationals of Pakistan and Bangladesh must complete special application forms. Nationals of Sri Lanka, UK nationals with dual nationality or of other origin may be required to complete additional application forms. Personal interviews in some cases is also necessary.

(c) Two passport-size photographs are required. Five passport size photographs are required from Pakistan nationals.

(d) Some fees to be sent by postal order or by bank draft.

(e) Stamped addressed special delivery envelope.

Business Persons need to complete the formalities listed from (a) to (e) and must submit a proof of onward travel. Students also need to complete the formalities listed from (a) to (e) and must submit a proof of admission to some university or educational institution.

Please note that the visa regulations change frequently so please check the Embassy for the latest information.

Working Days:
Personal applications of visas are normally processed on the same day. Postal applications may take up to 15 working days or longer. For nationals of Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, non UK citizens and other restricted areas it may take 7 days or sometimes much longer. For British nationals with dual nationality and other special cases, authorization from India is required and the time taken to process the visa will vary according to individual cases. Care should be taken not to apply too late (to avoid unforeseen delays) or too early, since visas are issued on receipt of passport and are valid from date of issue and not from date of travel.

Protected and Restricted Areas:
Certain parts of the country have been designated protected or restricted areas that require special permits and in some cases government authorization can be easily obtained. If a person intends to visit a specific restricted region then that should be indicated while applying for a visa. Permission will be granted to visit that region only. Tourists are advised to check with India Tourism for upto date information before departing India.
