The calm and peaceful Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the Uttara Kannada District of Karnataka. The Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary is the largest wildlife sanctuary in Karnataka. This wildlife sanctuary protects some of the very rare, unspoilt, untouched and unexplored treasure of wild animals and birds. Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary abounds with a rich and diverse variety of flora and fauna and offers ample opportunities to nature lovers to enjoy the captivating landscape. This sanctuary is spread over an area of 834.16 square km. The steep slopes, picturesque deep river valleys and rich hilly forest terrain and the splendid scenic beauty of the syntheri rock makes it a picturesque sanctuary. The forest in Dandeli is typical moist deciduous and semi evergreen type. The Kali river and its tributaries, Kaneri and Nagajhari, meander through the forest.

Wildlife Attractions in the Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary

The major wildlife attraction in the Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary are the crocodiles. Besides crocodiles, Barking deer, spotted deer, mouse deer, Sambar, sloth bear, panther, tiger, gaur, elephant, wild dog, civet cat, bison, jackal, langur and giant flying squirrel are the various wild animals which are found in the Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary. Besides this, a variety of colourful birds like Bush Grail, Partridge, magpie robin, golden backed woodpecker, crested serpent eagle, reptiles, ruffles and frogs can also be seen in the Dandeli Wildlife sanctuary.

 
Jungle Safari in Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary

You can visit the Dandeli Wildlife sanctuary by having the safari in jeep. Apart from having jeep safari, you can also enjoy the nature walk, bird watching, crocodile sighting trips, fishing and trekking in the jungles. In the Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary, you can also enjoy the evening ride in a coracle on the Kali river, viewing the crocodiles basking in the sun and flock of beautiful waterbirds returning to nest in trees, darters drying their plumes on deadwood entrenched in the river and egrets flying in the sky.

About 35 km from Dandeli Wildlife Sanctuary is the Syntheri rocks. These are the monolithic granite structure located amidst thick forest, with the perennial river Kaneri flowing by its side. There are innumerable trekking trails and fishing spots at Dandeli. You can also visit the Ulavi Temple and the Karwar and Kali Wilderness Camp for white water rafting and other adventure activities.
