          Jaisalmer Govt. Museum is located near Moomal Hotel on the Police Line 
          Road. This Museum was launched to highlight the multifaceted cultural 
          traditions of the great Thar desert and its heritage, it was opened to 
          public in 19 Feb 1984. Important attractions of the museum are: 
          paintings, statues of stone, inscriptions, coins, handicraft items and 
          embroidered dresses.  
           
          It houses a great collection of wood and marine fossils and gives an 
          insight into the geological past of the area. Sculptures from the 
          earliest townships of Kiradu and Lodurva dating back to the 12th 
          century and the graceful youth of those times can be traced in the 
          Government Museum in Jaisalmer. 
           
          Other prominent attractions of the museum are: fossils of wood, 
          marine, sandstone, limestone that has been laid in the sea during the 
          ancient times. These records of fossils clearly depicts various 
          hard-shelled vertebrate and invertebrates animals. Also in the museum 
          the fossils of soft-bodied animals like young insects and sea anemones 
          can also be found. The museum also exhibits some of the unusual 
          sculptures from Lodurva and Kiradu which dates back to 12th century.
           
           
          The large collection of wood and marine fossils in the museum gives an 
          insight into the geological past of the area. The sculpture from the

          century pulsate with youth and grace and depict the artistic skill of

          Government Museum Jaisalmer was founded by the Department of 
          Archeology and the purpose of the museum was to highlight the 
          multifaceted tradition, culture of Thar Desert and its heritage which 
          was started in 19th Feb 1984. The museum exhibits great collection of 
          marine and wood fossils which helps in giving insight of geological 
          past of the region. Sculptures from townships of that era of Kairadu 
          and Lodurva of 12th century can be traced in this museum.  
           
          Nearly all types of marine fossil buried in limestone, shale and 
          sandstone are likely to be seen in the museum. Most of the early 
          vertebrate and hard shelled invertebrates are all represented in the 
          fossil record and the soft bodied animals such as worms and sea 
          anemones can be found at Government Museum Jaisalmer. Other attraction 
          of Jaisalmer includes Manak Chowk, Gadisisar Lake, Patwon-Ki-Haveli, 
          Salim Singh Ki Haveli, Nathmal Ji Ki Haveli and beautiful Jain 
          temples. You will also find some amazing embroidered works, silver 
          items, jewelries etc to shop from the local markets of Jaisalmer.
