          Virat 
          Nagar was the capital of the famous Matsayadesh. Some references of 
          Matsayadesh have been made in the Indian epic- the Mahabharata.  In 
          the epic age, the area approximately the district of Jaipur, Alwar and 
          Bharatpur came to be known as Matsayadesh with Virat Nagar as its 
          capital.  
          
          Virat 
          Nagar was also famous for Mahatma Ramchandra Veer's birth place who 
          was a Hindu saint and also cow lover. To stop the animal in the 
          Temples of India, he did Anshan. He has introduced the Panchkhand 
          Peeth on the top of hill. He was a follower of a famous shasthra 
          pandit named Hanuman and their caste was named as Vanar. He had also 
          written the Hindu epic Ramayana in Hindi language the named "Ram katha 
          Amrit", "Humare Hutatma" "Vijay Pataka" & "Vinash ke Marg".

          The 
          museum, although not very large has the prosperous collection. The 
          excavated material similar to potteries, pikkins, old coins, seals, 
          the metallic pieces, weapons and statues have been exhibited here. 
          Viratnagar Museum has artifacts from Bairat's long history, including 
          sculptures, coins, pottery, seals and metal objects.Bairat's history 
          goes back to the time of the Mahabharata, when it was known as 
          "Viratnagar".  
          
          It was the 
          capital of ancient Mahajanapada (kingdom) of Machcha. In the 5th 
          century, the kingdom came under the control of the nearby Chedi 
          Kingdom and afterwards it became part of the Mauryan Empire. The 
          museum also exhibits the ruins of the Bijak-ki-pahadi who was a 
          Buddhist Chaitya (chapel), these chapels are located in Bairat and 
          dates back to 3rd century BCE, are the oldest free-standing Buddhist 
          structures in India. The town is also home to ruins of a Buddhist 
          monastery, rock-cut statute from Emperor Ashoka and a wood and timber 
          temple, these date from the Mauryan period.

          museum located in the region. The museum truly reveals the rich 
          history of the place. Viratnagar is located about 40 kms from the Pink 
          City, this place used to be the capital of the legendary Matsayadesh. 
          Frequent references of Matsayadesh have been made in the Indian epic- 
          the Mahabharat.
