          Udaipur is 
          the city of lakes which is situated in the Aravallis range of 
          Rajasthan. Udaipur is situated at an elevation of 577 meters above sea

          km from Jaipur. Udaipur is known as "city of palaces". City palace and

          Udaipur was 
          founded in 1553 by Maharana Udai Singh. Udaipur was the capital of 
          Mewar kingdom which was ruled by Sisodia Dynasty for about 1200 years. 
          There is a legend associated with Udaipur city.  
          Maharana 
          Udai Singh met a sacred man meditating on a hill overlooking the lake 
          Pichola when Maharana was out for hunting. The solitary person blessed the Maharana 
          and told him to construct a palace at that place as it would be 
          protected. The Maharana followed his advice and founded Udaipur.  
           
          Lake Palace is situated overlooking the aquamarine waters of the lake 
          Pichola. Lake palace is made of shining granite and white marble. This 
          palace has an amazing blend of pavilions, terraces, corridors, 
          courtyards, gardens and rooms. Famous Maharana Pratap was born was 
          born in Udaipur. He was passionate with Chittorgarh and the past 
          splendor of the Sisodia tribe possessed his mind. To win Chittorgarh 
          from the Mughals, Maharana Pratap left Udaipur. But he was not succeed 
          in his efforts. Due to this and Udaipur remained the capital of Mewar 
          till India got her independence.  |

      Tourist Attraction in Udaipur |

          One of the 
          main attraction of Udaipur is 
          Sahelion-Ki-Bari. It is a famous tourist attraction in 
          Udaipur. This Garden is situated below the embankment of Fateh Sagar 
          Lake with shady walks and wide lawns. Other place of interest in 
          Udaipur is the Folk art museum. Folk art museum exhibits a collection 
          of paintings, musical instruments, puppets, dolls, ornaments, masks, 
          and Folk dresses. Another tourist attraction in Udaipur is 
          City Palace which is the 
          biggest Palace in India. In this palace 4 generations of Maharajas 
          added their contribution, the palace contains a variety of exhibits 
          inside such as paintings, attractive furniture, utensils and 
          traditional articles. The museum of the palace also contains the 
          miniature wall paintings of traditional India and beautiful mosaic of 
          peacock. Prominent Lake Palace 
          of Udaipur was the royal summer dwelling of the former rulers. James 
          bond Film Octopussy was shot here, due to which this palace become 
          more famous in the west.

          Udaipur is also well connected by road. Udaipur railway station is 
          about 4 km from the city center. Udaipur is linked directly by rail

          The nearest airport from Udaipur is Dabok airport which is about 
          20km away from Udaipur. Regular flights operate from Udaipur to
