          Jagdish 
          Temple is one of the prominent shrines of Udaipur. It is situated 
          inside the complex of City Palace of Udaipur. This temple is built of 
          the Indo-Aryan style of architecture. Important highlights of the 
          temple are elaborate carvings on pillars. The temple is devoted to 
          Lord Vishnu (Laxmi Narayan), the preserver of the Universe. It is 
          famous for being the largest temple in the city of Udaipur. The 
          entrance of this temple is situated about 150 meters from the Bara Pol 
          of the City Palace.  
          
          This 
          three-storied temple is a marvel of architecture that consists of 
          magnificently carved pillars, painted walls adorned ceilings and lush 
          halls. The summit of the main shrine is about 79 feet high which 
          controls the skyline of Udaipur. This summit is decorated with statues 
          of dancers, horsemen, elephants, and musicians making it really an 
          amazing sight to visit.  
          
          At the 
          entrance of the shrine 2 huge stone elephants are there to welcome 
          people. At the front of the temple a stone slab marked with the 
          inscriptions related to Maharaja Jagat Singh. To reach the temple, you 
          have to take stairs of 32 steps. Inside the temple, a brass image of 
          Garuda, a shape of half-eagle and half-man is situated. This large 
          statue stands as if; it is safeguarding the entrance of Lord Vishnu.
           
          
          The main 
          temple has the remarkable four-armed image of Lord Vishnu. This statue 
          is engraved from a single piece of black stone. A single sight of the 
          statue takes the person to the celestial world to find everything calm 
          and quiet. The main temple of Lord Jagdish/ Vishnu is situated 
          centrally surrounded by four smaller temples. These temples are 
          devoted to Goddess Shakti, Lord Shiva, Sun God and Lord Ganesha. 
          
          The 
          wonderful architecture of the shrine possess a pyramidal spire, 
          terrace and a mandap (prayer hall). The first and the second storey of 
          the temple each has 50 columns. The elaborate statues on the pillars 
          need an enduring sight to admire the remarkable beauty of this shrine.
           
          
          At the 
          time of construction of this temple the Hindu architectural science of 
          'Vastushstra' was kept in mind. People from all over come to visit 
          this beautiful and religious place. The calmness and the architectural 
          wonder of the shrine cannot be explained in words, so one must visit 
          this temple to get the blessings of Lord Jagdish.
