Kumbhalgarh is one of the prominent examples of defensive fortification in Rajsamand district of Rajasthan. It is included in Hill Forts of Rajasthan and it is a World Heritage Site. After Chittorgarh, The fort of Kumbalgarh was the second most prominent fort of the Mewar kingdom. It was founded by Rana Kumbha in 15th century. This fort is rising from a prominent ridge at an altitude of 1914 meters above the sea level. Kumbhalgarh is about 85 km from Udaipur.

Kumbalgarh has temperate climate.  Temperature of Kumbalgarh is around 42.6 degree Celsius in summers and it is about 11.6 degree Celsius in winters. Best time to visit Kumbhalgarh is from October to February. Common languages which are spoken in Kumbalgarh are Rajasthani, English and Hindi. Kumbalgarh fort is now opened for the public. In the evening it is amazingly lighten for a few minutes

Kumbhalgarh Fort

Kumbhalgarh was founded by Rana Kumbha and his dynasty who were Sisodiarajputs descendents. Kumbhalgarh is well-known for its historical fort. Kumbalgarh fort was founded by Rana Kumbh in 15th century AD. Kumbhalgarh Fort is most elaborative and large. The fort covers a 36 km long wall which has seven ramparts and seven majestic gates, one within the other which are ideal for nature trail. Last gate-the 'Nimboo Pol' has attractive chambers. The king of Mewar, infant Udai Singh was hidden in these chambers to save himself from his murderous intentions of his uncles. Udaipur City was founded by Udai Singh. The fort has witnessed many heroic deeds of great warriors. This formidable fort fell only once to the army of Akbar and that too because the water supply was contaminated by the enemy forces.

Important tourist attractions in Kumbhalgarh is the Kumbhalgarh Fort. This fort stands on a rocky hill commanding an amazing view of the sandy desert of Marwar and the harsh and wild scenery of the Aravallis. It is one of the most inaccessible forts of Rajasthan and reached with great difficulty. It is enclosed by a series of walls with bastions and battlements.
Other prominent attractions of Kumbalgarh is the Cloud Palace or “Badal Mahal”. Cloud Palace offers a scenic view of the surrounding countryside, it is located at the top of the hill. It was renovated in the late 19th century. Ranakpur Jain Temples are the nearby attraction which is about 25 km south west of Kumbhalgarh.

Kumbalgarh is connected by rail. Train services links Kumbhalgarh with some of the important cities of Rajasthan.

By Road:
Kumbalgarh is well-connected by road. A good network of roads links Kumbhalgarh with important cities in and outside Rajasthan.
