Day 01: Arrival in Bhutan (Paro) Arrive in Paro, the ancient capital city of
Bhutan. Upon
arrival, you will be received by our Bhutan 's representative and drive through the picturesque Paro valley with its quaint clusters of hamlets amid terraced
paddy fields to your hotel. On a clear day, you would be struck
by the sight of the 24,000 feet white-domed peak of the sacred
Mt. Jhomolhari (Mountain
of the goddess Jhomo) that looms overhead. The rest of the day is
at leisure to explore the town of Paro and its markets.
Day 02: Paro - Timphu
In the morning we visit Ta Dzong. It is a national museum housed in an
ancient watchtower, which has a fine collection of ancient Thangkha paintings, textiles, weapons and other artifacts.
Later we take a short drive to the old ruined fortress of Drugyel Dzong or the Fort of Drukpa
Victory. It is a historical site from the ramparts of which the
Bhutanese rebelled the Tibetan invaders from time to time. Then
we visit
one of the oldest and most celebrated Dzongs in Bhutan, the
Rinpung Dzong, or the Fortress of the Heap of Jewels. In the
afternoon we visit the Taktsang Monastery’s viewpoint. Taktsang
means the "Tiger's
Nest”. This monastery is built around a cave in which Guru Rimpoche (also known
as Guru Padmasambhava) meditated. For the local people it is a place of pilgrimage, but for
the tourist, a hike to the viewpoint is
exhausting, thrilling and mystical. According to the legends,
the Guru Rimpoche is said to have flown to the site of the monastery on
the back of the tigress from Tibet and meditated in the cave
there for three months. In the evening we drive through the spectacular mountain views
and peaceful countryside to Thimphu, the modern capital of
Bhutan. Thimphu is a small, charming city sandwiched in the heart of the Himalayas. All houses and
buildings are painted and constructed in traditional Bhutanese
style.
Day 03:
Thimphu - Paro
In the morning we visit the National Library, which holds a vast
collection of ancient Buddhist manuscripts and the School of Thangkha paintings (The Arts and Crafts School) where you can
see young children learning and practicing the ancient art of paintings. Then
we visit the Bhutan Arts and Crafts Centre and the
Handicrafts Emporium to see the exquisite artistry of
traditional crafts and textiles, and wander through the streets
for a little shopping. After lunch, we will visit the Memorial Chorten.
This memorial was built in 1974 in the memory of the king Jigme Dorji Wangchuck.
This memorial exhibits a multi-storied stupa and
numerous paintings which provide a rare insight into Buddhist
philosophy. In the late evening, drive to Paro.
Day 04: Paro After having an early breakfast, drive to the airport to board your onward flight.
