The
Jammu and Kashmir state comprises
of three distinct regions: Jammu, the predominantly Hindu
region in the
South, Srinagar and the Vale of Kashmir, predominantly Muslim in the center; and Leh and Ladakh, forming the eastern highlands across the great Himalayan axis, predominantly Buddhist. Together they comprise the largest of India’s Himalayan states and contain over 6 million
people. Kashmir has been one of the most visited states of India and consequently has many facilities to offer
to the visitor. The Vale of Kashmir has always been the main focus, with a superb summer climate and glorious scenery, and increasing opportunities for skiing in winter. Gulmarg and Pahalgam draw large numbers of visitors and offer outdoor activities such as trout fishing and trekking. In
the Kashmir region, tourism is an important source of income. Most of
the travelers to Ladakh are also attracted by its Buddhist and Tibetan culture. Tragically, the state has also experienced repeated political upheaval, and since late 1989 it has been virtually impossible for
travelers to visit. In mid 1991, it seemed that there may be some chance of improvement in the situation but it was far from clear. It
is essential for foreigners to take advice from Indian Tourist information
Centre in Delhi and from their consulates before leaving for the
Jammu and Kashmir.

Dear Mr. Kumar,
Our trip was very good. Really
an good experience ! We think that 17 days are a
right duration to visit Rajasthan. Navin, our driver
was always in time and he drove very softly. He gave
us as we realized later always good advice and what
was to do. He knows the street , location of hotels
and roads very well. Our car was kept clean and was
full with the petrol so we did not have to stop on
the way for fuel. We really had a good driver. We
