 Dausa

About Dausa

Dausa is a city which is situated nearby Jaipur in Rajasthan, India  at NH-11. It is about 52 km from Jaipur, 242 km from Delhi. It is popularly known as "Dev Nagari." Dausa is enclosed by Jaipur, Sawai Madhopur, Bharatpur, Tonk, Alwar and Karauli.
 

History of Dausa

Dausa is located in the north-eastern part of Rajasthan, an area popularly known as Dhundhar which was ruled by Bargujars. Dausa was a prominent political place for Dhundhar region. Dausa was ruled by Bargujar ruler Manthan Dev during ninth century AD.
 

Culture of Dausa

Folk Music and Dance
The folk art of Hela-Khayal is a very popular singing style of this area.
It is very popular and different due to its traditional singing which is very its uniqueness lies in its traditional singing which is highly stylized. Hela singers, very popular among the village folk of Dausa, display and symbolize the everlasting courage and enthusiasm for life of its people. Meena songs are very popular in Dausa. Mr. Visnu meena from Patlas is very well-known singer. Ladies songs are generally sing at the time of marriage.
 

Local Festivals of Dausa

Basant Panchmi Mela
In Dausa Basant Panchmi Mela is celebrated every year during the month of February with the respect of statues of god Surya, Narshingji and Raghunathji.
The festival lasts for 3 days with a large local market for villagers to acquire necessary requirements for the whole year. In addition to this, it has all facilities for rural entertainment. Due to all these, this fair is very much popular among rural people of the district.  

Dolchi Holi
Dolchi Holi takes place in Pavta village. In this the young men of Gurjar caste, celebrates the traditional Holi with a difference. On the next day of Dhulandi, those young men throw a jet of water on each other using a tiny pot built of leather from the 4 nearby ponds which are specially for this.
It lasts for 1 hour. It goes on for one hour and they face it with courage and passion.
 

Tourist Attractions in Dausa

Important tourist attractions in Dausa are: Mehandipur Balaji Temple, Abhaneri. Dausa has many places to visit like as Abhaneri, where many movies have been shot and Mehandipur Balaji Temple, a celestial place for devotees from adjacent states like Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

Mehandipur Balaji Temple: Mehandipur Balaji Temple is a famous shrine of Hanuman (Bajrang Bali). This holy place is well-known for treatment of mentally disturbed people. People from all over India come to this place to for treatment of such diseases.

Abhaneri: Abhaneri is well-known for its Post-gupta or early medieval monuments. It is located at a distance of about 32 km from the district headquarters towards Bandikui. Some of the prominent places which are worth to visit at Abhaneri are Harshat Mata Temple and Chand Baori (Step Well).

Neelkanth & Panch Mahadev Temple: Dausa is popularly known as Devnagri. Five images  of God Shiva (Mahadev), Sahajnath, Somnath, Gupteshwar & Neelkanth are situated in the temples at Dausa. Shrine of Neelkanth, located on the plateau of the adjacent hill, depict its divine presence and ancient glory.

Gatolav: Gatolav, is well-known for the birth of Sant Sunderdas who had been preached by his master, Sant Dadudayal, the creator of Dadupanthi religion.

Bhandarej: Bhandarej is well-known for terracotta utensils, attractive lattice work, walls, statues, etc. found in excavation. It is located at about 25 km from Dausa.

Shri Paplaj Mata Mandir: Paplaj Mata Shrine is located in the sub-district Lalsot. The goddess is respected by Bairwa, Gurjar and Meena Caste.

Khawaraoji: Khawaraoji is well-known for dwelling of the ruler Raoji and natural beauty. It is located at a distance of about 23 km from the district headquarters towards Sikrai. There is one more fort on the top of hills which is about more than 1000 years old. Khawaraoji is enclosed by hills onan all sides, and having Amol Ghati nearby with natural beauty, this place is worth to visit. A beautiful and scenic lake is also situated in Khawaraoji Village behind the hills.

Jhajhirampura : Jhajhirampura is well-known for the water tank and shrines of various god and goddess like Lord Hanuman, Lord Shiv etc. It is enclosed by hills and with natural water resource, this place has natural and religious significance. It is located at a distance of about 18 kms from Dausa.

By Rail:
Dausa is directly linked by rail network. Railway station of Dausa is an important railway station of north-western railway under Jaipur division.

By Road:
Dausa is well connected by road network. It is at a distance of about 52 kms from jaipur on NH-11 and is linked with Delhi, Agra, Bharatpur, Sawai Madhopur and Karauli by road.
